FAQ
Our Chairman, Heather Harper MBE describes the Society’s inspiration, intention and values as follows:
The Bahrain Society is rooted in fostering enduring friendships and cultural exchanges between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom. We have been a bridge connecting people, celebrating shared histories, and promoting mutual understanding for six decades. Our commitment is to create a welcoming community where members can share their experiences, learn from one another, and build lasting connections.
We are dedicated to arranging events that unite our members, helping them stay in touch and engaged. We believe in the power of conversation, shared experiences, and collaboration to strengthen the bonds between our nations. As Chairman, I am focused on continuing this legacy by ensuring that our Society remains a vibrant and inclusive space for all who cherish the unique relationship between Bahrain and the UK.
For almost 60 years, members of Bahrain Society continue to nurture the bridge of friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom. The Society acts as a catalyst enabling former and present residents of Bahrain to stay in touch with each other and the history & culture shared by the two nations.
Our Patron is His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa
From our inception in 1965, six years before Bahrain became independent from the United Kingdom, the ruler of Bahrain is the Patron of the Bahrain Society. In 1999, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa honoured the Society with his patronage. Our first patron was King Hamad’s father, His Highness the Amir Shaikh Isa bin Sulman Al Khalifa.
Our President is His Excellency Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa
The Society’s first founding President was Shaikh Sulman bin Daij Al Khalifa. Since independence in 1971, Bahrain’s sitting ambassador to the United Kingdom assumes presidency and His Excellency, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa has served as the Kingdom’s Ambassador to the UK and the Bahrain Society’s President since 2015.
